SPECIAL COLLECTION THIS WEEK (15/16 June): Day for Life
Message from the Bishops of England, Ireland and Scotland
There has been much discussion in the media recently about ‘assisted suicide’, whereby people who feel they are overburdened by suffering will be facilitated in bringing their lives to a premature end by a change in legislation. The Catholic Church opposes this.
As Catholics, along with many people of other faiths and none, we share a different vision about what it is to be fully human, especially when we are suffering and approaching death in the hope of eternal life…. We are called to defend this gift of life to its natural end and to protect vulnerable citizens from a culture that could pressure them into assisted suicide. We support people with the companionship of a listening ear, appropriate treatment, and the best of care, so that their last days can be times of grace, intimacy and love.
Bishop John Sherrington (England and Wales), Bishop Kevin Doran (Ireland), and Bishop John Keenan (Scotland)
FIRST COMMUNION CHILDREN
Our children had the joy of celebrating their 1st Holy Communion in a special Mass this morning Please remember Lola, Romi, Rafa, Poppy, Gabby, Evie and Riva in your prayers, as they begin a new and ever closer relationship with Our Lord. With special thanks to Sarah & Phil Dawson for their careful guidance and preparation of the children over the last eight months.
OUR PATRONAL FEAST DAY: Ss PETER & PAUL, Saturday 29 June
To celebrate the feast of SS Peter & Paul, refreshments will be provided in the parish centre following the 5.00pm Mass on 29th June. Please join us if you can, everyone is most welcome – especially visitors.
THANKS FROM TOM!
Tom Molyneux wishes to thank everyone who very kindly donated to the Marie Curie appeal during his sponsored walk round the Lakes. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to complete the hike due to the appalling weather: a month’s worth of rain in 24-hours! Nevertheless, Tom is extremely grateful for all donations and good wishes.
MISSION TODAY – SUMMER EDITION
The new edition on the Mission Today magazines is now available for collection from the narthex. It includes a round-up of what’s happening in Malawi and India, as well as an important financial report on income and expenditure during 2023.
DON’T FORGET! PARISH FOODBANK – DONATIONS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME
Thank you for donations already received, which have been taken to the foodbank centre at St Mary’s in Leyland. They are particularly short of tinned pasta, tinned meat / fish and puddings.
Please check that donations are well before their BB date!
Thank you all for your kind-hearted generosity. It makes such a big difference.

HOW TO DONATE TO THE CHURCH
Standing Orders – Many find this an easier alternative to trying to remember to bring cash along each week. Forms are available in the porch / from the Parish Office. You can determine the amount and when it is deducted each month. Please post compoleted forms to your bank.
Envelopes – easy, because they can be prepared before coming to church. They afford some ‘privacy’ for the amount donated. Please contact the Parish Office so we can arrange this.
Cash / cheque donations each week and very gratefully received.
Gift Aid If you are a taxpayer then you can easily help the parish to claim 25% extra on top of every donation you make. Eg: your donation of £10 per week could become £12.25 going to the church. Filling in a simple form to register your name and address means we can claim an additional 25% of your gift
Please collect a form from the narthex on your way out today, complete and return to the Parish Office.
THANK YOU for your continuing support and generosity in these very challenging times.
