Today was known as Home Mission Sunday, but has now been renamed Evangelii Gaudium Sunday, after Pope Francis’ first (solo) Apostolic Exhortation on the Joy of the Gospel.  The day offers the Catholic community in England and Wales the opportunity to celebrate the beauty of our faith and our commitment to witness to the fullness of life in Christ. Fr Jan Nowotnik, Director of Mission at the Bishops’ Conference, tells us more about the day (https://youtu.be/ZORIvqhw3S0) and how you can support this important work.

COFFEE TIME & TRAIDCRAFT FAYRE – 17 SEPTEMBER

SPECIAL PRAYERS FOR THE PEOPLE OF PAKISTAN & FOR HM QUEEN ELIZABETH II
For the people of Pakistan
O Lord, in the goodness of your constant love, be with the people of Pakistan as they face devastating floods. At this time of great loss – loss of lives, homes and crops – may we be filled with your compassion and moved to reach out in love. As we stand alongside our sisters and brothers, we pray that they may find consolation in their sorrow, strength as they seek shelter and safety and courage to carry on.
Forgive us, O Lord, for our part in the climate crisis, and inspire us all to play our part in protecting the earth, our common home. So that together we may build a world that reflects your glory, where hope drives out despair and all things are made new. Amen.

For HM The Queen
Father, Creator of all, You fashion all people in your likeness and shower them with your grace and manifold gifts. We give you thanks for the long reign of your servant Queen Elizabeth II who, steadfast in your love, faithfully served the nation for seventy years.
May her faith in you and her loyal service never be forgotten. May she enjoy the light of your glory in all eternity.
Compassionate Christ, Bless the family and friends of the Queen, for whom this loss is a moment of great sadness. Help them shoulder their private grief in the midst of their public lives. We pray that your yoke will be easy and your burden light for our new Monarch, Charles III. Give him the grace to reign wisely, always faithful to your name.
Spirit, Comforter, We pray for ourselves and all people who mourn the passing of our Queen. Like her, may we all draw strength from your love and face each new day with hope. Pour your consolation into every grieving heart so that doubt may turn into certainty and sadness give birth to gratitude. Amen
