OUR LADY’S WEBSITE LAUNCH!  I am very happy to announce the launch of our first ever website.  Please explore – and spread the word!  Find us at www.ourladystarleton.co.uk

PEACE SUNDAY:  The Bishops of England and Wales invite us to keep this 2nd Sunday in Ordinary Time as a day of world peace and to reflect on the theme chosen by Pope Francis.  The day has particular significance as there are a number of very stark anniversaries this year:  the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz (the largest of the Nazi death camps)  and the 75th anniversary of the ending of World War II.  They invite us to examine the roots of violence in our culture today and call on us to reject the ‘logic’ of violence and instead, adopt a commitment to rebuild what has been broken, in ways that lead to peace.

SYNOD 2020 – LAUNCH OF THE 3rd THEMEHow We Pray Together.  This week we begin a period of discernment on the third of the Synod themes, and parishioners will be invited to a meeting soon, to discuss more proposals for the Synod.  Next week’s newsletter will include the questions and issues for us all to consider on the theme of ‘How We Pray Together’, to help us prepare for the next meeting.  Please take an information leaflet on this from the table in the porch.

ECUMENICAL WALK OF WITNESS SERVICE AT OUR LADY’S, SUNDAY 19 JANUARY – 4pm

Our Lady’s is part of the Tarleton Walking Day Ecumenical Group and as such, we are hosting the annual service this year.  EVERYONE IS WELCOME.

The annual Week of Prayer for Christian Unity begins this week, on Saturday, January 18, and continues through to Saturday, January 25. The theme for 2020 is “They Showed Us Unusual Kindness.” (Acts 28:2) Please join with Christians around the world praying “that all may be one… that the world may believe”  (John 17:21).

You can also join with members of other Christian churches and communities in our area,  for this service at Our Lady’s this weekend.

There will be refreshments in the hall afterwards, where you can meet with fellow Christians in a more social setting!

REFLECTION: PRAYER FOR PEACE SUNDAY

Loving God of peace,

Strengthen my determination to work for a world of peace and justice –

My conviction that, whatever our nationality or race, we are all global citizens: one in Christ;

My courage, to challenge the powerful with the values of the gospel;

My commitment to find non-violent ways of resolving conflict: personal, local, national and international;

My efforts, to forgive injuries and to love those I find hard to love.

Amen

Peace alone is holy.  Peace alone is holy.  Not war.  (Pope Francis)
