COVID INFECTIONS ARE INCREASING IN WEST LANCS: KEEPING EVERYONE SAFE & WELL
Unsurprisingly, due the return to schools, returns from holiday and waning immunity, Covid infections are rapidly increasing.  Please ensure that you keep to well-ventilated areas and that you take advantage of both ‘flu and Covid booster vaccinations that are currently available for the over-50s and those who are immune-compromised.
We ask that you do not come to church if you have symptoms of a cold, a cough, a temperature, a sore throat or are feeling particularly tired or off colour. Take a test. Keep it to yourself and get better soon!

*Our Lady of the Rosary entered the general calendar in the eighteenth century. It is a memorial of the Virgin Mary as honoured in the rosary, a form of prayer combining the salutation of the angel (Luke 1:28) with meditation on the saving mysteries of Christ.

PAUSE FOR HOPE: ECUMENICAL SERVICE FOR THOSE SUFFERING WITH CANCER – SUNDAY 2 OCTOBER
All are welcome to join the annual ecumenical Pause for Hope service for all those affected in any way by cancer.
The service is at the Metropolitan Cathedral at 3pm on Sunday 2 October.
This service aims to bring hope and consolation to all and will include prayers, hymns, music and reflections.  No tickets required.  All are welcome.

RED MISSION BOXES
Please bring them to church when you attend Mass next weekend, or drop them off at the presbytery on Friday, between 10am and 4pm. CAFOD FAMILY FAST DAY (7 October) – Harvest – World Food Crisis Appeal
Millions of families are facing a food crisis that could be the worst in living memory. Your donations can help CAFOD’s local experts to provide emergency food supplies to families in the worst affected countries in East Africa and support communities around the world working hard to put food on the table.
By sharing a simple meal and giving what you save, you’ll be standing in solidarity with vulnerable people who are threatened by the global food crisis. No-one deserves to go hungry.

PRISONERS AND THEIR FAMILIES: Prisoners Sunday and Prisons Week: 9 October
Prisoner’s Week was a Catholic initiative begun in 1975 by Bishop Victor Guazelli. It reflects the work of the Prison Advice and Care Trust which builds on its origins as the Bourne Trust — the Catholic Prisoner’s Aid Society. This Sunday and the following week seek to focus attention not only on the needs of prisoners but on all those involved the field of prison care, prisoners’ families, victims of crime, prison staff and many volunteers. Envelopes are available in the porch.

DAY OF RENEWAL – ST CLARE’S, FULWOOD
The next Day of Renewal will be on Saturday 15 October, from 10am to 4pm at St Clare’s, Sharoe Green Lane, Fulwood PR2 9HH.
It will be led by Sean Booth and the theme is ‘When anything is exposed by the light it becomes visible’ (Ephesians 5:13).  The day will commence with Mass at 10am.  Please bring a packed lunch.  Tea & coffee are provided.  Please phone 07745 009694 or 07954 429333.

SAFE SPACES
The Church of England and Catholic Church in England and Wales is continuing to provide support for victims of church-based abuse, following a 2-year pilot of the Safe Spaces service.  Currently delivered by the independent charity Victim Support, Safe Space is a free national support service which offers a confidential, safe space for anyone who has been abused through their relationship with either the Church of England or the Catholic Church in England and Wales.  Further details can be found in an information sheet, on the table in the narthex.

UKRAINE AID FUND The International Aid Trust no longer requires clothing, but would be grateful for non-perishable foodstuffs, toiletries and medical supplies eg plasters, bandages, antiseptic wipes, paracetamol, ibuprofen.  The depot is at Lostock Hall, Sherdley Road.

MASS INTENTONS
Mass intentions are welcome, not just for our dear departed, but for any other occasion eg in thanksgiving, successful outcome (exams / operation), wedding / anniversary blessings. Please write your name and intention, with the preferred date – if applicable –  on a piece of paper and place in an envelope, along with your offering, either in the weekly offertory basket or through the presbytery door.  It may not be possible to guarantee the specific date requested, for various reasons, however, every effort will be made to find a date as near as possible.  Thank you for your understanding.

OPPORTUNITIES TO GET INVOLVED IN THE PARISH
Now that parish activities are starting up again, there are a number of opportunities to become a bit more involved in parish life, particularly: stewarding/welcomers, driving deliveries to St Mary’s foodbank every other week, singing with the choir, flower arranging, church cleaning, altar serving, fund-raising.  Help is welcome from all ages!  Please contact the Parish Office by email or ring on Fridays, in order to find out more.

MISSIO NEWS – OUR MISSION BOXES
