COFFEE TIME & TRAIDCRAFT FAYRE –  CANCELLED!
Apologies for last week’s notice advertising Coffee Time after Mass this week.  Traidcraft & Coffee Times are now cancelled until next spring.  Many thanks to Teresa and Val who have supplied both the Traidcraft goods and very welcome refreshments all year.

FUNDRAISING: OUR CHRISTMAS APPEAL FOR 2022
Please collect a letter from the Fundraising Committee, available in the narthex, which outlines details of our Christmas Collection for Mary’s Meals.  This is the charity supported by our own Archdiocese.  It only costs £15.90 to feed a child for a whole year, so we have the potential to help a tremendous number of children around the world.  If you can gift aid your donation, even better – it frees up 25%-40% more of your donation to go directly to Mary’s Meals.  We know this is asking a lot of people, especially as so many of us are facing our own financial and economic challenges, but we hope you’ll feel able to donate even a small amount.  It all helps!  Thank you.

THE 1st SUNDAY OF ADVENT NEXT WEEK – A NEW LITURGICAL YEAR
The new liturgical year begins on the first Sunday of Advent and for 2023 the Pope is asking us to start preparing for the Jubilee year of 2025, with prayers and acts of faith and love that focus on bringing hope to those who have none.  In his letter announcing the Jubilee earlier this year, Pope Francis wrote:
The forthcoming Jubilee can contribute greatly to restoring a climate of hope and trust as a prelude to the renewal and rebirth that we so urgently desire; that is why I have chosen as the motto of the Jubilee, Pilgrims of Hope. This will indeed be the case if we are capable of recovering a sense of universal fraternity and refuse to turn a blind eye to the tragedy of rampant poverty that prevents millions of men, women, young people and children from living in a manner worthy of our human dignity. Here I think in particular of the many refugees forced to abandon their native lands. May the voices of the poor be heard throughout this time of preparation for the Jubilee, which is meant to restore access to the fruits of the earth to everyone.

1st COMMUNION PROGRAMME
Please remember our 1st Communion children who are now looking forward to their third session, which will focus on helping them to prepare to make their first confessions next month – a really important step towards deepening their relationship with Our Lord.

MUSICAL TREATS FOR THE WEEK
Hymn to Christ the King – Sarah Hart – YouTube
A modern hymn, with a very sing-able tune and very thoughtful lyrics – reproduced for you here, so you can sin a-long.

Oh we were wandering in the dark
We had lost our hope and way
And we were restless in our hearts
How we needed to be saved
And so to rescue all your own
You sent to us your only Son
A light to fall, a peace to bring
The coming of our Christ, the King

The word made flesh, the light from light
A cry that pierced our endless noise
A child to speak into our pain
Restoring unto us our joy
To teach our hearts and heal our wounds
Replace our doubt with heaven’s truth
The broken, healed; the lost, redeemed
The beauty of our Christ, the King

Though heaven’s glory he had shown
All our praises turned to scorn
The gift of mercy that he gave
We returned with cross and thorn
Yet to the end, he loved us still
Surrendered to the Father’s will
Forgiveness was his offering
The mercy of our Christ, the King

And though they laid him in the tomb
In the silence of the grave
No stone could keep the love of God
From the ones he came to save
And so in power and radiant light
He vanquished death and rose to life
Now with the heavens I shall sing
The glory of our Christ the King

WITH EVERY BLESSING FOR PARISHIONERS & FAMILIES THIS NEXT WEEK
