POPE’S PRAYER INTENTIONS FOR OCTOBER
For a Shared Mission
We pray that the Church continue to sustain in all ways a Synodal lifestyle, as a sign of co-responsibility, promoting the participation, the communion and the mission shared among priests, religious and lay people
SAINTS & FEAST DAYS THIS WEEK
30 September – St Jerome
1 October – St Thérèse of the Child Jesus*
2 October – Guardian Angels
4 October – St Francis of Assissi
5 October – St Faustina Kowlaska
*St Thérèse (1873-97) – under obedience to her Mother Superior – wrote a short autobiography, which has become a spiritual guide for many millions around the world, entitled ‘The Story of a Soul’. Her ‘Little Way’ of blind faith in the loving mercy and forgiveness of God has encouraged others, including priests, religious and popes, to follow her example of putting others first and placing themselves last. She is a doctor of the Church and patron of the missions.
CAFOD FAMILY FAST DAY – FRIDAY 4 OCTOBER
Message from CAFOD:
This Harvest, donations will help CAFOD to support people like Daniel, a young man in the Democratic Republic of Congo. By joining a local carpentry training project funded by CAFOD, Daniel now has his own workshop where he makes furniture to order and thus ekes out a sustainable living for himself and his family. More projects like this are desperately needed.
Please take an envelope today and return it next week, 5 October.
Our parish is always very supportive of CAFOD’s projects, so let’s keep up our reputation. Please remember to gift aid your donations, if you can. Thank you.
CAFOD LEGACY LEAFLETS
In other ‘news’, CAFOD has sent out leaflets explaining how you can help by leaving them a gift in your will. Please take a Legacy leaflet from the narthex if you are interested.
MISSION TODAY – AUTUMN EDITION
The new edition of the Mission Today magazines is now available for collection from the narthex.
Red Boxes: they can be brought along when you attend Mass and left in the narthex for Sandra Cobham. Or, if you’re unable to get to church, please give Sandra a ring on 01704 821609 and she will arrange to collect.
Many thanks.

LITTLE THEATRES & MENTAL HEALTH / WELL-BEING
Chorley and Southport have their own theatres and Southport’s in particular, has just brought out its new season pamphlet of plays and productions for 2024-25. Visiting the theatre can provide a welcome form of relaxation and enjoyment, and at Southport, the volunteers are very good at putting people at their ease. You will be sure of a grand welcome. The season opens in September with ‘Allo ‘Allo – featuring characters from the very popular BBC comedy series. Tickets (including Saturday matinees) are very reasonably priced and have not been increased at all since before the pandemic.
In addition, there is news of a number of special packages available, that afford real value for money.
The pamphlets, containing full details, are available in the narthex.

HOW TO DONATE TO THE CHURCH
Standing Orders – Many find this an easier alternative to trying to remember to bring cash along each week. Forms are available in the porch / from the Parish Office. You can determine the amount and when it is deducted each month. Please post compoleted forms to your bank.
Envelopes – easy, because they can be prepared before coming to church. They afford some ‘privacy’ for the amount donated. Please contact the Parish Office so we can arrange this.
Cash / cheque donations each week and very gratefully received.
Gift Aid If you are a taxpayer then you can easily help the parish to claim 25% extra on top of every donation you make. Eg: your donation of £10 per week could become £12.25 going to the church. Filling in a simple form to register your name and address means we can claim an additional 25% of your gift
Please collect a form from the narthex on your way out today, complete and return to the Parish Office.
THANK YOU for your continuing support and generosity in these very challenging times.
