PRISONERS AND THEIR FAMILIES: Prisoners Sunday and Prisons Week: 9 October
At present there are nearly 80,000 in the prison population in this country, and over 90,000 children with a parent in prison. Prisoners’ Week provides an opportunity for us all to pray for those in prison, their families, those who work in the prison system and all those who are victims of crime. Please remember to pray for prisoners at this time. More information is available on the Pact website: www.prisonadvice.org.uk Envelopes are available in the porch.
A Prayer for Prisons Week (9-15th October): for awareness of the needs of prisoners and their families, victims of offenders, prisons staff and all those who care…
Lord, you offer freedom to all people.
We pray for those in prison.
Break the bonds of fear and isolation that exist.
Support with your love prisoners and their families and friends, prison staff and all who care.
Heal those who have been wounded by the activities of others, especially the victims of crime.
Help us to forgive one another; to act justly, love mercy and walk humbly together with Christ, in His strength and in His Spirit, now and every day, Amen
HOMELESSNESS: Homeless Sunday, 9th October (World Homeless Day, 10th October).
This year’s Homeless Sunday takes place on 9th October, the day before World Homeless Day on Monday 10th October. Coordinated by Housing Justice, the chosen theme for this year is ‘Homelessness and Mental Health Issues’, which feels particularly timely as World Mental Health Day is also on Monday 10th October. Housing Justice was set up in 2003, and has Cardinal Vincent Nichols as their President, and provides resources for your parish here https://housingjustice.org.uk/homeless-sunday
A prayer for Homeless Sunday from Housing Justice resources
Please guard and keep safe our homeless brothers and sisters,
giving them the strength to keep going when everything seems so difficult.
Please grant your blessing on all those who give their time to support those without a place to live.
We ask this through Christ our Lord, Amen
